More Welsh working from home than ever before

According to new research, thousands more Welsh employees are working from home than in previous years.

The study by TNS Research and commissioned by the UK’s Self Storage Association (SSA), revealed that 40 per cent of staff in Wales now work from home.

As more than a fifth of those staff felt that the amount of work they carried out at home had increased over the last three years, the number of people working from home looks set to grow even further. Just nine per cent felt that levels of home working would decrease.

The reason behind the strong growth in home working in Wales was listed as the growing availability of the internet – more than three quarters of people reported that internet access was the most important element to successful home working – even more than the telephone which was second with two thirds of people saying it was key.

Rodney Walker, CEO of the Self Storage Association, told Business Post, “With the right communications and available space people are realising the benefits of working from home.

“It seems to be ‘win win’ as companies benefit from improved levels of productivity and savings to office space; while employees benefit from convenience, flexibility and reduced costs,” he added.
