Report calls for TfL to help facilitate homeworking

People who work from home on the odd occasion tend to find out that they miss out on better deals when it comes to travel. With busy cities increasingly seeing the benefits in homeworking,a committee report has urged Transport for London (TfL) to do something to remedy the situation.

The report, compiled by the Conservative group on the London Assembly, urged TfL to offer part-time and homeworkers access to the same fares that full-time employees have through their season tickets.

Entitled Home Works: Why London Needs to Expand Home Working, the report states that the transport authority needs to “think carefully about how to ensure that they way they operate – for example in terms of their ticketing policy – makes home working and more flexible working financially viable for Londoners”.

In response to the report, Shashi Verma, director of customer experience at TfL, stated the obvious: “Whilst the Oyster ‘pay as you go’ with its daily fare caps supports those with flexible working patterns, under the existing ticketing system it is not possible to provide a part-time Travelcard. “

Mr Verman added, however, that there are plans to implement enhancements to travel fares which would allow customers to “get a weekly cap, taking away the need to buy a weekly ticket”.
