Travel industry sees growing interest in work from home opportunities

A travel agency has reported a growing interest from travel agents in opportunities which allow them to work from home.

Travel Counsellors, based in Bolton, employs around 800 home-based travel agents and is planning on recruiting more. The firm says enquiries about work from home roles increased 41 per cent in January and 56 per cent in February.

The agency is now launching 12 recruitment roadshows and three mini-conferences in response. The conferences will take place in Bolton, Birmingham and London on 4-6 April and will be followed by the roadshows around the country between 6 April and 25 May.

Candidates attending the events will get a sneak preview of the technology which would allow them to work as a travel agent from home. This includes a customer management system and an efficient payment processing system.

Managing director Steve Byrne said, “We are seeing interest from travel professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds, with particular interest from high street agents as many still face uncertainty in such a turbulent climate."

He added, “We have certainly seen a dramatic increase in recruitment enquiries as more and more travel professionals see the benefits in running their own travel businesses from home with the support and technology of an international yet still independent and very personal company.”
