Home working quality mark plans outlined

The not-for-profit orgnaisation Work Wise UK has outlined its plans for a quality mark scheme that will give recognition to British businesses that are successfully moving towards enabling a flexible workforce.

It is hoped that the quality mark will encourage companies across the country to initiate more flexible working practices and improve the progress being made by those that already have.

"Those organisations which achieve the Work Wise Quality Mark will be well placed to attract the very best staff, as the labour market becomes ever more competitive and society becomes increasingly aware of the benefits of flexibility and new ways of working," said the UK skills envoy Sir Digby Jones.

Making clear the case for establishing an increasingly flexible workforce in Britain, Work Wise UK points to benefits for employees in terms of their well-being and for the environment as a result of a reduction in commuting.

Among the organisation supporting the efforts of Work Wise UK is the cerebral palsy support group Scope, which is keen to see businesses offer employment from home to some of Britain’s mobility-restricted citizens.
