Homeworking can be ‘win-win’

Allowing staff to work from home or from anywhere they choose to can be a win-win situation, benefiting both employers and workers, according to one expert.

Tom Stewart from Systems Concepts suggests that for many employees in the UK and elsewhere having the freedom to work outside a traditional office environment can be liberating and motivating.

"If workers have the freedom to explore different ways of working, they will be less stressed, more effective and more productive," said Mr Stewart.

"Also, giving people more choice is empowering, raises morale and improves the relationships between employees and their bosses – it’s a win-win," he added.

Across Britain the Work Wise UK initiative is aiming to convince businesses that allowing employees to operate from their home can help their recruitment processes as people increasingly aim to establish a better work-life balance.

Furthermore, the Equal Opportunities Commission recently reported that the UK is falling behind other European countries in terms of flexible working practices.
