RBS employees join Olympic homeworkers

Staff at the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) are set to join the thousands of other workers who are going to work from home during the London Olympics.

Employees based in the capital are being permitted to take advantage of “flexible working” practices during the event. The decision is designed to keep business moving amid the heavy pressure the London transport network will have to deal with.

Not every job with the bank is possible to do from home and bank branch workers will still be required to come in to their place of work as usual. But team managers in other divisions, such as investment banking, will have the choice as to whether or not they permit their staff to work from home.

Sources close to the bank told the Telegraph that staff will only be working from home “where appropriate”, adding that the tactic will be employed particularly on “exceptionally busy days”.

The decision has been met with mixed reactions as some people believe that staff should be making every effort to pull together and get to work in the wake of the recent libor scandal. However, allowing staff the flexibility to work from home could well help them get the job done as research suggests that people are often more productive when working from home.
