Homeworkers shun indoors for outdoors

New research has shown that, although more and more people are working from home, the home office has been bypassed in favour of the garden bench.

The survey, carried out by wood protection firm Sadolin, has revealed that one in three of us generate our best ideas and develop business ventures whilst sat on the patio or the garden bench.

Wireless internet had played a big part in this new trend of working outdoors and has enabled people to stay in touch wherever they are, or to start up a new business venture from the comfort of their garden.

The survey also found that the garden has become one of the most important areas for homeowners, with 20 per cent of people considering the kitchen and bedroom less important than their garden, and 12 per cent considering the living room less important.

Psychologist Honey Lancaster James said, ‘The presence of nature and wildlife can help people who have a psychological block to relax enough to receive inspiration and insight more effectively.

“I find it is one of the most inspiring and energising places to work,” she added.

So, with the summer well and truly upon us, now is the time to get out in the garden and get creative.
