Internet access 'more widespread in UK'

Working at home has become far more feasible now that accessing the internet across the UK has become easier and faster.

James Smythe, UK Online Measurement Company (UKOM) general manager, has said, "Getting connected to the internet at home has become easier, and it has become a part of more people's working lives too.”

He also highlighted the impact faster connections have had on the UK, increasing the number of internet users.

"Widespread access to decent broadband speeds means that the internet is getting better at making people's lives easier," added Mr Smythe. His comments followed figures published by UKOM which showed the UK internet audience grew by five per cent from 36.9 million people in May 2009 to 38.8 million people in May 2010.

In related news, Apple's new iPad has been flying off the shelves, selling more than three million units just 80 days after its release in the USA.

Using the touchscreen technology, browsers can trawl the web, read and send email, share photos, watch HD videos, listen to music, play games and read ebooks.More than 11,000 new applications have been launched for the iPad, which promises up to ten hours of battery life.
