Australians ‘want work-from-home eco incentives’

Environmental concerns mean the majority of Australians would support incentives designed to encourage home-based working, it has been revealed.

A recent study by "career building" website LinkMe showed that around 87 per cent of Australian’s would like to see their government offer tax incentives to boost the trend towards home-based working.

Environmental concerns are the primary reason why people want to see these reforms introduced, explains LinkMe, but the research team also makes clear that home-based workers "usually become more productive".

LinkMe’s chief executive Campbell Sallabank said: "Employees finding work close to where they live or working form home, even as little as one day per week, would have a phenomenal impact on the environment as carbon emissions and traffic congestions would be greatly reduced."

A report from Dimension Data recently concluded that increased productivity is the main driving force behind the trend towards home-based working among businesses around the world.
