Homeworkers offered a ‘taste of the office’

A new business in the American city of Seattle is aiming to give home-based workers a taste of the office by offering temporary work spaces and services, it has emerged.

The company behind the idea is My Day Office and the project hopes to cater for those people who have opted to work from home, but who want to vary their professional life or who miss their "water cooler conversations".

And the initiative is beginning to gain popularity among the thousands of people living in the city who decided to work flexibly to avoid a daily commute or to establish a better work-life balance, reports the Seattle Post Intelligencer.

"Really what I’m creating here is a sense of community for these people who are otherwise very isolated," said Shauna Brennan, president of My Day Office.

"People don’t look down at home offices anymore, it’s natural," she continued, adding that her company gives people the chance to "just get out of the house and spice up the workday."

A report from the itbusiness.ca news service recently highlighted the rising prevalence of homeworking in Canada.
